I grew up in Lawrence, KS which is 30 minutes outside of Kansas City, where I currently reside. It may seem as if I didn't stray far from home, but oh, Honey, have I got some stories to share!
Finishing my degree in Theatre and Film, University of Kansas, with a minor in vocal performance, I decided to move to NYC and make a "go" of it. After enjoying a full career in musical theatre, traveling the world performing with various troupes and shows, I decided to return to the homeland (KS) and stop living out of a suitcase.
I obtained my nursing degree, naively thinking that a life in pediatric nursing would be fulfilling for me. I worked as a nurse in KC for ten years and realized it wasn't my calling. Thankfully, my husband agreed with me and was able to grant me the freedom to retire from nursing and focus on my writing.
Years ago, when living in NYC, I started writing stage plays and a few children's picture books. Very green at the time, I didn't have much success. After much work, and new strategies, I am submitting several new picture books to publishers, looking for an agent who not only appreciates PB's and middle grade snarky chicklit, but can sell my up-coming humorous parenting books.
I wrote the health/parenting articles for KC Parent Magazine, KC Baby (quarterly) Magazine and SimplyKC for five years. I have a humor commentary column for the metro newspaper, The Kansas City Starthat has been running since 2008 and my former blog, Nurse Mommy Laughs retired and now is Laughing With Kids
I am a right-brained kind of gal, who likes to write or read stories that make me laugh aloud or quietly cry, cook creative menus with no recipes (recipes are for rule followers). I love playing at the public library with my kids, take long walks with my i-Pod, sing loud torch songs when no one is listening, crochet God-awful creations, lay in a hammock and read, and go on movie dates with my supportive husband!
